ADVANCED COURSE IN TAILORING HAUTE COUTURE TECHNIQUES
In an interest to promote excellence and greater technical knowledge in the professional fashion sector, the Museum presents the first edition of the advanced course in the specific methods used by workers at the Balenciaga Maison’s tailoring ateliers.
The training – running for five days – will include demonstrations of his sewing and pressing techniques. Furthermore, to ensure that the participants achieve practical skills in these techniques, they will produce a jacket corresponding to a suit jacket made at Maison Balenciaga in Paris. Specifically, a model in blue and white wool double-breasted twill with “quadrillé” motifs from February 1966 belonging to the Museum´s collection, and which is a good example of Cristóbal Balenciaga’s rigorous technical mastery. Special attention will be paid to adapting the pattern to the fabric motif while maintaining the harmony of the grid. Half of the jacket will be made as an experimental framework.
