Online course in Haute Couture Tailoring techniques - Part 2
This intermediate-level training course is part of the Museum’s tailoring programme and, specifically, proposes the continuation of the first online tailoring course programme. As such, it addresses the completion of certain elements of the checked wool jacket with lapels that was the subject of the previous training course.
Note: In order to take this course, you must have completed the previous course, the online tailoring course - Part 1
Instructor: Javier Martín
Course dates: February 9 to March 1, 2026. Approximate time required: 25 hours.
Timetable: Participants may arrange their own schedule as long as they dedicate the estimated time necessary for each task and complete the exercises within the specified dates for each module. 50 minutes tutorial sessions will be held on Tuesday and Thursday at 6:00 p.m. (in Spanish) and 7:00 p.m. (in English), lasting approximately 50 minutes.
Target participants: Students and graduates in Fashion Design, Pattern Making, and/or Dressmaking, fashion professionals, and anyone interested in learning haute-couture tailoring techniques. In particular, the course is aimed at those who have already completed the Museum’s online tailoring course - Part 1.
Requirements: Applicants must possess and be able to demonstrate some knowledge of sewing techniques. They should be able to cut, baste, and construct a garment. It is essential to have completed the online tailoring course - Part 1.
Registration: Registration will be open from the date on which the masterclass is announced, December 1 to December 15 (including, 02:00 p.m., Spanish time), and those wishing to participate must complete the online registration form. Candidates are required to submit a curriculum vitae specifying their training and experience in the world of fashion, as well as a motivation letter stating why the candidate wishes to participate in the activity and their connection to its content. Applications which are incomplete or received after the given deadline will not be accepted.
Number of Participants: The maximum number of participants will be 30 people. The participants will be selected based on the required documentation and place allocations will be communicated from December 18.
Language: The audiovisual materials are in Spanish, but all the practical work is demonstrated through role-play, making it possible to follow the exercises. Tutorials are held in two different groups and languages, Spanish and English.
Price: 340€.
The price includes the supply and shipment (within the Spanish mainland) of the materials necessary for completing the course. Each participant will receive, by post, at the address provided upon application, a kit containing the wool fabric, interfacing, twill tape, and a pattern, before the commencement of the course.
Participants residing outside the Spanish mainland must cover the shipping costs in addition to the course fee, as per the details below:
Balearic Islands: 18.00 €
Canary Islands: 20.00 €
For participants residing in other EU areas or in countries outside the EU, the Museum will provide a list of the details so that they can source the required materials in their respective countries. In such cases, the course fee will be €320.
Participants are expected to supply their own basic sewing equipment (pins, needles, measuring tape, tailor’s chalk, etc.), a square ruler, sewing machine, iron, ironing cloth, tailor’s pressing ham, and mannequin, as well as a computer and/or tablet and internet access for viewing the videos and attending online tutorial sessions.
*The net enrolment fee received by the Cristobal Balenciaga Foundation is as stated above; all bank fees must be covered by the applicant.
**Discounts for "Friends of the Museum" only apply to those with at least two years of proven membership at the time of enrolment.
PLACES ARE LIMITED. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.
If a minimum number of participants is not reached, cancellation of the course will be communicated to all the interested parties, and course fees will be refunded where applicable.
At the end of the course, the participants will be awarded a certificate.
