Yuki mino
Cristóbal Balenciaga provides the body with spaces to inhabit in full motion. The forms and volumes of his garments create an initial inhabitable space between the I and the We.
This workshop starts from this idea to explore the relationship between the body, space and the way of dressing. Each family will create its own baby hut, inspired by the Yuki Mino, a traditional simple Japanese snow cloak based on the geometry of the square. Using construction and printing techniques, each family will personalise its baby hut with a design that reflects its identity and which makes its unique. An activity to experiment with forms, geometry and motion, and to be creative as a family.

WARP AND WEFT
Understanding and constantly exploring fabrics are fundamental in Cristóbal Balenciaga’s work. This workshop approaches textiles through a specific ‘zoom’ to discover how a fabric is made.
Participating families will use warp and weft interlacing to experiment with different ways to bind and cross the threads to make their own outfits, as a weaving process. An activity to explore the possibilities of binding and interlacing, while discovering how a simple action can be transformed into a creation.

Shadows
Cristóbal Balenciaga used volume to transform the body. His iconic balloon, sack, tunic and baby doll silhouettes created new forms, as he played with the space between the body and the fabric.
During the Shadows workshop, we will look at some of the couturier’s silhouettes to experiment with their volumes and forms. Drawing on Chinese shadow theatre, we will play with light and movement to create and project our own silhouettes, discovering how the garment can transform the body and the surrounding space.Cristóbal Balenciaga used volume to transform the body.
