The Subtleties of a Dialogue
The Subtleties of a Dialogue exhibition was first unveiled as part of European Heritage Days at Kering Group’s headquarters in the 17th-century Laennec Hospital at 40 Rue de Sèvres, and moves now at Cristóbal Balenciaga’s birthplace, becoming the first exhibition of the House in a museum setting.
A selection of creations by both Cristóbal Balenciaga and Demna are presented as objets d’art within a scenography that isolates details of each work, allowing for closer analysis of their signature aesthetics, craftsmanship, and iconic Balenciaga codes.
Here, attention is placed on masterful designs that bring harmony to shape, balance to a fold, and purity to silhouette. Each display testifies to the House’s technical excellence and creative richness. A focus on the micro is made to better illuminate the macro. Each individual detail is The Subtleties of a Dialogue examined as part of a larger whole, showcasing innovative construction and materiality.
The garments on display are drawn from the House’s extensive archive, spanning Cristóbal Balenciaga’s early works to Demna’s ready-to-wear and Couture collections for the House, with the additional presence of a single work from the museum’s collection which represents a new dialogue between both parties in the common goal of preserving Cristóbal Balenciaga’s heritage.
By bringing The Subtleties of a Dialogue to the Cristóbal Balenciaga Museum, the House reaffirms its commitment to honoring Cristóbal Balenciaga’s lasting impact and underscores its deep connection to his legacy, paying tribute to his groundbreaking contributions to fashion while continuing to build upon the aesthetic and conceptual principles that defined his work.
