Transmissions

The Transmissions project, promoted by the Museum, gathered professors and students from the most prestigious international fashion design schools

Transmissions is an educational project organised by the Cristóbal Balenciaga Museum, intended for international fashion schools and their students. The aim is to encourage participants to dive into the philosophy, the techniques and biographical context of Cristóbal Balenciaga, centring on one of his defining themes: the introduction of new and revolutionary silhouettes.

A visit to the museum and access to certain exhibits from its archives mark the starting point for a process of research, reflection and creation conducted by each participant.

This exhibition presents a selection of the resulting works, from among more than 500 generated during the project, representing the dialogue between the legacy preserved at the museum, the readings of the teaching staff involved, and the work and talent of a new generation of creators.

In the 2019-2021 edition, the project connects the Museum with some of the most important Fashion Design schools in the world, such as: Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture (Espoo, Finland), Accademia Costume e Moda (Roma, Italy),ArtEZ University of the Arts (Arnhem, Holand), Bilbao International Art & Fashion (Bilbao, Basque Country), Central Saint Martins – University of the Arts London (London, England), Iceland University of the Arts (Reykjavik, Island), IED Madrid (Madrid, Spain), Osaka Institute of Fashion (Osaka, Japan), Parsons School of Design (New York, United States), Kyoto Seika University (Kyoto, Japan), Shenkar College of Engineering, Design and Arts (Ramat Gan, Israel),  and The Royal Danish Academy  (Copenhagen, Denmark).
