DOODEM narrates Moru’s journey from Senegal to Europe. What made Moru leave his homeland in search of a new life? What hurdles did he have to overcome on his journey across the Mali dessert or the Mediterranean sea? To what extent can looks of contempt and compassion tear at a person’s humanity?
The cellist, Eñaut Zubizarreta, provides the musical background to the journey, with melodies performed by the baritone saxophonist Eneko Anaut. Yet it is no mere musical performance, as it combines dance, narration and theatre. The choreography of Miren Lizeaga gives substance to the music throughout, while the poetry re-written by Oihana Iguaran put what is seen and heard into context.
