Place: Museum hall

The relationship between Cristóbal Balenciaga and Juan Mari Emilas, third generation of a saga of dressmakers, is the theme of the book “Balenciaga: mi jefe”, which also includes the experiences of other EISA house workers at its Madrid headquarters. Written by Emilas’ daughter, Mariu, following the draft he had almost completed before his death in 2010, the work now launches at the Getaria museum.

Since 2015, the Museum has an open line of research entitled “the hands that sew”, intended to identify and highlight the contribution made by the people who worked over the years for Cristóbal Balenciaga, to preserve the techniques of the trade used in his workshop and, at the same time, to reveal information on the personality of the Maestro seen through the eyes of his collaborators.

One important element for this research work is gathering the statements of people connected to the house, either directly, from themselves, or indirectly through the members of their families, as in the case of the book by Mariu Emilas, “Balenciaga: mi jefe”.
