With the objective of making an aesthetically simple, yet structurally complex design, the student centred their practice on construction techniques to create this elegant, shell-inspired two-piece garment. The piece meets at the hips and curves around the shoulders, framing the face and neckline; lines flow from the centre to the outer edges of the top and skirt, mimicking the contours of a shell.
The sheerness and sheen of the transparent crinoline adds to the light-feel of the design that is reinforced by the shaping, as it bends and flows fluidly around the body. Constructed to appear effortless, there are only four seams on the whole piece. A total of forty panels make up the top and skirt and pleats are used for added volume. If you look closely, you can see that the panels make 4 cm box plates that extend from out of the garment, unstitched, adding to the flow of the intricate structure.
