This design layers tulle of different colours recreating the student’s favourite view: the glistening water surface. Combining shades of blue, the water, and beige, the murkiness that is found floating within, this design flows and transforms like the sea. Not wanting to create too formal a design, the vinyl corset is paired with denim, knit and stitching to create a cohesive ensemble embodying the shades and movements of the water.
As a juxtaposition of vinyl and tulle—the structured and the loose, the hard and soft and the rigid and the fluid—the design embodies a meeting of the opposing ideas that water encapsulates. The vinyl corset, adorned with vinyl frills, ties together this design. Underneath, tulle drapes to the floor at the sides and reveals a pair of casual, high waist, straight-leg denim trousers. The four different types of tulle used are cut at different heights, adding to the varying shades of blue throughout the design that evoque the multiplicity of the shades of the sea.
