This project critiques the culture of excessive positivity and hyper-productivity, serving as an ode to simplicity, minimalism, and rest. In a society where pause and rest are increasingly rare and undervalued, this design embraces stillness through clean lines, a monochromatic palette, and rounded tailoring. The result is an amorphous, voluminous padded dress that moves and shapes organically around the body.
The back and abdomen are exaggerated to form a new silhouette, symbolising the weight of fatigue as it moves through the body. The student began by moulding the panels and draping the design on parchment paper to craft the desired silhouette. Linen fabric, combined with foam for structure, is wrinkled to create texture, embodying the sense of exhaustion. A leg slit introduces movement, while the thick, textured fabric enhances the sluggish, worn-out feeling the design conveys.
