Titled Evolution, this design encapsulates a journey of transformation, deconstruction, and reconstruction. Drawing inspiration from the concept of erosion, the design mirrors the evolving silhouettes and textures that emerge over time, giving rise to new forms. Emulating the approach of Balenciaga in maintaining a deliberate space between the model and the garment, the student employs voluminous, organic shapes reminiscent of natural rocks, integrating rough textures and strategically placed holes to emulate erosion.
The design takes shape as a distinctive two-piece jacket and trouser suit of unconventional dimensions that emulate the organic forms of rocks and boulders. The collar, crafted from multicolour bouclé, introduces texture that plays against the neutral palette and sleek edges of the linen and cotton blend that form the voluminous jacket. Intricate pleating and ruching details echo the rugged landscapes that serve as the inspiration, which extends its influence down the colour of the thread used and the concealed zippers to maintain the harmony of the piece.
