Intended to provoke discomfort, the two-piece set balances between elegance and the grotesque. The colour palette, taffeta texture, and intricate teeth detailing of the dress and jacket evoke the fleeting beauty of flowers and the complexity of the human body, creating a haunting yet captivating ensemble. The result is unsettling yet draws the viewer in, sparking curiosity to learn more about the piece.
The design draws inspiration from burned skin, teeth, and voluminous silhouettes. After sketching the initial concept, the piece was draped over a mini mannequin to experiment with the desired volumes for the sleeves and skirt. Heat was applied to 100% polyester silk-touch taffeta, causing it to shrink and form a unique bubbling texture with strategically placed holes. The colour of the garment evokes the tones of a palate, which is echoed through the resin teeth detailing across the bodice.
