This project is an architectural garment that celebrates the essence of the student’s family. Bleached denim was chosen as the primary material for its raw texture and muted tone. A hood covers the front of the head, playing with the idea that by obscuring the face—the most recognisable part of our identity—we challenge the way we are seen and understood. The design is a gesture of concealment, inviting reflection on what lies beneath the surface.
The dress is constructed from just two nearly rectangular pattern pieces. The small scraps that did result were repurposed to fill the shoulder pads, rendering the garment entirely zero-waste. To embed a personal element, the student created a pattern using the signatures of their parents and siblings, which are laser-engraved onto the denim. These markings are placed on the inside of the dress, hidden from view. This intimate detail becomes a symbolic gesture, suggesting that only those who truly know them have access to this inner layer of their life.
