Broken Mirror confronts the distorted reflections imposed on women by social media and societal expectations. This design explores a powerful dichotomy: on one side, the idealised hourglass figure—represented by a fitted dress with corset-inspired cuts and exaggeratedly long sleeves that evoke a warped self-image; on the other, a celebration of authenticity and self-acceptance, embodied through voluminous puffer garments including a jacket, coat, poncho, skirt, hat, and scarf.
Each piece is padded with cotton and shaped using elastic bands to mimic the natural folds and contours of the body, embracing imperfection as beauty. A standout element—the hat crafted from hair—symbolises the persistent scrutiny surrounding female body hair and the pressure to conform. Material choices range from glossy to matte jersey, velvet snake-print textiles, and black rubber cord used for seams and detailing, creating a tactile contrast that reflects the tension between artifice and reality.
