Carolina Zecchino

Accademia Costume e Moda
/ 2019—21

The student focuses her research analysis on the voluminous designs of Cristóbal Balenciaga, such as the balloon dresses of the 1950s, and draws parallels between these seemingly light and airy garments and the creations of artist Jeff Koons. Drawing on the visual language of advertising, marketing and the entertainment industry and for the purpose of "communicating with the masses"?, Koons pushes the boundaries between popular and elite culture with his vibrantly coloured and gigantic sculptures. The result is a monochromatic outfit in which nylon and holographic materials are merged; a duality combined in the same vein as the air that fills the space.
