This course proposes an approximation to the specific methods used in the tailoring ateliers at the Balenciaga House. The sessions will include demonstrations of the maison sewing and ironing techniques; furthermore, aiming to convey these practical
skills to the students, they will complete several exercises placing special emphasis on working with wool fabric and on the steps required to produce a handmade collar and lapel.

Dates: September 10-12, 2021.

Times: Friday, September 10, from 15:00 to 19:00, and Saturday and Sunday, 11 and
12, from 10:00 to 14:00 and 15:00 to 19:00. Total dedication: 20 hours.

Participants: Students or people holding qualifications in Fashion Design, Pattern
Design and Dressmaking, fashion professionals and all those interested in learning or
improving their knowledge with Haute Couture techniques.

Registration: Registration will be open from the day this course is announced until
(and including) July 26, 14:00. Those wishing to participate must complete the online registration form. Candidates are required to submit a curriculum vitae specifying their training and experience in the world of fashion, and a motivation letter stating why they want to participate in the activity, their connection to its content.

Number of participants: The maximum number of participants will be 16 people. The participants will be selected based on the requested documentation and the assignation of places will be communicated from July 29.

Language: The course will be given in Spanish.

Teacher: Javier Martín. During his formative years, he met Carmen and Emilia Carriches, seamstresses at the EISA workshop in the capital and first assistants of the head couturier, Felisa Irigoyen. From them he learned the specific dressmaking techniques of the couturier from Getaria and acquired knowledge on the construction of volumes that would shape his designs. Since 2015, he has been collaborating with the Cristóbal Balenciaga Museoa education programme compiling and transmitting the sewing techniques used at the Balenciaga House ateliers.

Price: 265 euros.

The Museum has established a protocol to ensure observance of the health measures in place for the purposes of safety in the educational activities and has therefore adapted the way it functions and its spaces to guarantee the wellbeing of its staff and visitors.
