#FINAESTAMPA_

The time has come to reassert fashion illustration as an art form in itself. A sort of X-ray of the present time of a discipline which, since its origins, translates as the reflection of an era.

Prior to photography, illustration had the task of disseminating the silhouettes, volume, colour and body language populating the magazines on subjects of general interest and fashion. A hegemony represented, until the central decades of the 20th century, by names such as Marty, Sáez de Tejada, Lepape, Eric, Benito, Benigni, Bérard, Bouché, or Gruau among others, who had the opportunity to reflect the golden age of haute couture.

The expansion of photography throughout the last century and its progressive appreciation as an artistic discipline, while it did displace illustration, never went as far as to eradicate it, given that the two are very different and – as has been demonstrated – complementary forms of expression. And far from disappearing, contemporary illustration grows in strength as an artistic practice associated to fashion.

The time has come to reassert fashion illustration as an art form in itself. Through the work of twenty-two international artists – emerging and established – highly esteemed today, #FINAESTAMPA_ unites 150 original works of reference and summarises a precise moment. A sort of X-ray of the present time of a discipline which, since its origins, translates as the reflection of an era.
