Following an incident on the Korean subway where the student’s clothes were pulled and pushed from behind, this silhouette was born. Accentuated at the back to echo the shape of a bag they used as a form of protection, this sculpturally, unique piece creates volumes at the back and sides of the body forming a protective shell and asymmetrical cut.
The student used darts, pleats and curves to create their desired silhouette. The buttons, split line and pockets are carefully placed to harmonise with the rest of the design and create the effortless elegance inspired by Balenciaga’s designs. The result is a detailed yet simple jacket with a lifted collar that arches all away around the back of the neck to create a shield that forms a protective shell structure. The shell is its own, separate layer, leaving a visible space between the jacket as it suspends off the lower back.
